Registration, filing and payment: which step do you need?
Obtaining a corporate tax registration number does not complete the annual tax return or settle any tax due.
| Step | What it establishes |
|---|---|
| Registration | The taxable person, corporate tax number and registered details; review the entity type, incorporation records and applicable registration deadline. |
| Accounting preparation | The period’s financial records and supporting schedules needed to calculate the tax position, including transactions that require further analysis. |
| Return filing | The tax calculation and required declarations for the period, reviewed and approved before the return is submitted. |
| Payment | Settlement of the amount due, checked separately from the submission acknowledgement and reconciled to the tax account. |
An existing VAT number, low profit or free-zone licence does not by itself remove the need to assess corporate tax registration.
The handover explains the registration details and first filing responsibilities; bookkeeping, tax calculations and annual returns can be agreed alongside the application.
Assess the person that needs to register
We begin with the entity rather than only its trading name. Companies, branches, sole establishments and individuals carrying on business can have different registration considerations. We review the ownership and legal documents, identify related registrations and check the applicable rules before preparing an application.
For natural persons, the FTA identifies a registration test based on business turnover exceeding AED 1 million in a calendar year, with specified exclusions including wages and certain investment income. That is different from the taxable-income bands used to calculate tax. See the FTA corporate tax registration conditions. A company should not apply the natural-person turnover test to itself.
Check the applicable timeline
Registration timelines depend on the category of person and the relevant incorporation, residence or business facts. We check those facts against current FTA requirements instead of using one deadline for every applicant. If registration may be late, we flag the issue and review the account position before explaining the available next steps.
The FTA currently describes a late-registration penalty waiver linked to filing the first return or relevant annual declaration within seven months of the first period end. Eligibility must be checked for the particular case; it is not a general extension of the ordinary filing deadline. Read the current service guidance.
Prepare a consistent application record
We compare the licence, incorporation papers, ownership information and authorised signatory evidence. The financial year and entity details should be supported, because an error at registration can affect how later filing obligations appear. If a profile already exists, we review it before creating another one.
You confirm the information before authorised submission. We retain the application details and respond to agreed clarification requests. Approval and the corporate tax registration number are issued by the FTA. The handover records the certificate information and practical next actions for the finance team.
Build the first filing plan
Registration alone does not organise the accounts needed for the return. We help identify whether the business needs opening-balance work, bookkeeping, an implementation review or an annual filing engagement. Where these services are required, the proposal explains the separate deliverables and responsibility for maintaining records during the tax period, rather than waiting until the filing deadline approaches.
Documents and records to prepare
Tick the records you already have. The final request depends on your entity, the period and the work agreed. Please do not send financial records through this website.

Corporate tax registration FAQs
Do we register only when profit exceeds the tax threshold?
Registration and calculation of tax are separate questions. We assess the legal person and applicable registration rules, then consider the tax calculation through the relevant filing work. A low profit, a loss or an expectation that relief may apply should not be used as the sole reason to ignore registration.
Does our VAT registration cover corporate tax?
No. Corporate tax has its own registration and obligations. We review your existing EmaraTax profile to use the correct business record, but an existing VAT number does not replace the corporate tax application. Bring both tax certificates and any authority correspondence so we can check the account consistently.
What if our company is in a free zone?
A free-zone licence does not settle every corporate tax question. We review the entity's registration position separately from any potential qualifying free-zone treatment of income. The application should reflect the legal facts, and the business needs a separate assessment before relying on a particular rate or relief for its return.
Can you help when the registration deadline has passed?
Yes. We establish the relevant dates, check whether an application or penalty already exists and review the current rules for your circumstances. The proposal identifies registration work and any additional filing or penalty-related assessment. We do not promise a waiver without confirming that the conditions can actually be met.
Is return filing included in the registration fee?
Only if the agreed proposal expressly includes it. Registration prepares the taxpayer account; return filing requires financial records, tax calculations and management approval for a tax period. We can combine the work in one engagement, but the deliverables, document timetable and fee for each part remain clear.
