Outsourced CFO services for business decisions

Firswood provides outsourced CFO support in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and across the UAE for owners who need financial analysis before a business decision. The work can cover cash forecasts, budgets, working capital and funding requirements.

What to prepare

When do you need a CFO rather than more bookkeeping?

Start with the decision you need to make, then establish whether the underlying accounts are ready.

CFO advice supports management decisions; it does not guarantee a loan, investment return or funding approval.

We can work with your accountant on a recurring basis or assess a particular investment, hire or contract.

Start with the decision and the cash position

We translate a commercial question into the figures that matter: expected receipts, operating costs, commitments, funding needs and timing. A cash forecast distinguishes an invoiced sale from money available to pay suppliers. Scenario analysis then shows what changes if collections slow, margins reduce or a planned investment is delayed. We agree which assumptions management owns and which data can be tested, so the model remains a decision aid rather than an unexplained spreadsheet.

Build a useful finance review rhythm

An ongoing scope can combine budgets, rolling forecasts, management reporting and working-capital reviews. We compare actual performance with the plan and identify the operational questions behind the differences. For example, a revenue increase may still leave less cash if stock and receivables rise faster. Meetings focus on actions, owners and the next decision. Your bookkeeper or internal accountant continues to maintain the records unless that work is included separately.

Keep authority and professional responsibilities clear

We can prepare financial information for lenders or investors and help management assess proposed terms. We do not guarantee financing, valuations or commercial outcomes. Directors retain approval of borrowing, spending and strategy, while banks and investors make their own decisions. Legal advice, regulated investment advice and an audit opinion are outside a CFO engagement unless appropriately arranged as separate work.

Where a forecast starts from financial statements, their accounting basis and limitations must be understood. The FTA accounting standards guide addresses financial statements used for Corporate Tax. A management forecast is a separate forward-looking tool, with assumptions and uncertainties shown explicitly.

Working with Firswood

How the work starts

  1. Define the decisions

We identify the financial questions, time horizon and people responsible for acting on the analysis, rather than beginning with a standard reporting bundle.

  2. Test the starting information

We review available accounts and operational data, flag gaps and agree assumptions. Record cleanup is separately scoped when the starting figures are unreliable.

  3. Model the options

We prepare the agreed forecasts and scenarios, make sensitivities visible and explain how changes in timing or performance affect cash and funding.

  4. Review and update

Management reviews the implications and decides the actions. We update the agreed model or pack as new results and business decisions become available.

What affects the scope and fee?

  • Recurring support or project scope
  • Number of entities and business models
  • Data quality and model complexity
  • Frequency of meetings and reporting
  • Financing or transaction support required

We set out the deliverables, responsibilities and fee in the proposal. Work outside that scope is discussed before it is added.

Common questions

Outsourced CFO FAQs

How is outsourced CFO support different from bookkeeping?

Bookkeeping establishes what has happened and keeps the records organised. CFO support uses that information to plan, assess choices and oversee financial performance. It does not replace reliable books. We can work with your existing accountant, or define separate accounting and advisory responsibilities within a combined engagement.

Can we use the service for one decision?

Yes. A project might assess a new location, a contract, a hiring plan or a funding requirement. We agree the question, necessary information and decision deadline at the outset. The output explains assumptions and financial implications, while the final commercial decision remains with the business owner or board.

Will you arrange a loan or investment?

We can help prepare forecasts, financial schedules and explanations that a lender or investor requests, where included in the scope. Approval, pricing and availability depend on the institution and the business. We do not promise funding or act as a substitute for legal or regulated investment advice.

What if our management accounts are not reliable?

We first establish which figures can support a decision and which need correction. Sometimes a limited reconciliation is enough; sometimes a separate accounting or backlog project is needed. We can use clearly identified assumptions for planning, but we do not present uncertain starting data as verified historical performance.

Who approves spending and holds banking access?

Your authorised management retains spending, borrowing and payment approval. We can recommend controls and prepare analysis without taking custody of funds. Any system access must match the agreed work and approval policy. The engagement records responsibilities so that financial advice is not mistaken for authority to transact.

How often should we review the forecast?

The frequency depends on cash pressure, trading volatility and the decisions ahead. A business with uneven collections may need a different rhythm from one with predictable subscriptions. We agree the review cycle and update responsibilities with you, then change them when the information or decision needs justify it.
