Identify the reporting requirements

Start with the entity, licence and financial year.

Abu Dhabi’s Department of Economic Development (ADDED) provides economic licensing services, with applications available through TAMM. The ADDED licensing guide covers different licence types and services, including changes and renewals.

For an accounting engagement, tell us the issuing authority, legal form, licensed activity and financial year-end. Mention any additional entities or branches, and identify who currently prepares the accounts. We can then separate routine bookkeeping from outstanding filings or reporting work.

If the business is registered in ADGM or another free zone, say so at the outset. Its registration-authority requirements may need to be considered alongside the tax work. An address in Abu Dhabi by itself does not settle those requirements.

Accounting and tax services in Abu Dhabi.

Engage Firswood for recurring work or a specific assignment. Each service has its own scope, preparation and review requirements.

Regular accounts and bookkeeping

Bring sales, purchases and bank records into an agreed accounting routine. Our accounting and bookkeeping service covers the transactions, reconciliations and reports set out in your proposal, with responsibilities agreed for missing information and approvals.

VAT registration and filing

Establish what has been registered and which periods require attention. We can discuss VAT registration, prepare the records for VAT return filing, or scope a review where the treatment of a transaction needs closer examination.

Reporting for business decisions

If you need figures by project, activity or period, we first check how the underlying records are organised. Management reporting and outsourced CFO support can address budgets, cash requirements and the decisions in front of you.

Earlier periods and handovers

Unfinished accounts need a defined starting point. Backlog accounting begins with the periods involved, records available and balances that need checking. Where another accountant has been involved, we agree the information and access required for the handover.

Audit preparation and payroll

Discuss audit requirements early so the applicable appointment, records and reporting deadline can be identified. Payroll preparation can also be added to the scope, with your team retaining the agreed review and approval responsibilities.

ADGM entities

Confirm the accounts filing separately from the tax return.

ADGM’s Registration Authority publishes its own annual accounts guidance. The accounts required depend on the entity and applicable conditions. That is a distinct question from preparing a UAE corporate tax return.

At the start of an engagement, identify your accounting reference date, the last accounts filed and any notice from the authority. If an audit is required, the eligibility and appointment of the auditor must be confirmed before the engagement. An accounting or tax appointment alone does not establish that eligibility.

We can discuss the bookkeeping, financial information and coordination involved. The proposal must identify the specific work Firswood will carry out and any separate appointment needed.

Federal tax and local administration are separate.

UAE corporate tax applies across all emirates, as explained in the FTA’s corporate tax FAQs. Your Abu Dhabi licence and its renewal are separate matters from your tax registration and returns.

We review the entity, activities and supporting records when identifying the work. A mainland or free-zone description is a starting point for that discussion, not a complete tax conclusion.

Tell us what is current and what is outstanding.

That lets us agree a sensible starting point before requesting your records.

Read the financial setup guide

In your first enquiry, describe the business activity, current accounting software and the work you need done. Mention the last completed accounting period, known filing dates and whether the records cover one entity or several.

For reporting work, explain who uses the figures and the decisions they need to make. For a handover, tell us what your previous provider has completed and which reports or returns remain open.

Firswood works with Zoho Books, QuickBooks and Xero. Our in-house team includes ACCA-qualified professionals, and Firswood has an FTA-registered tax agent. See how we agree qualifications, responsibilities and appointments for the work.

Questions about accounting support in Abu Dhabi.

Find more detailed guidance in our service questions and answers.

Can Firswood support an Abu Dhabi business for one assignment?

Yes. You can appoint us for a defined requirement, such as clearing an accounting backlog, preparing a return or reviewing management reports. We agree the entity, period, records and deliverables before the work begins. Recurring accounting support is also available.

What is different about accounting for an ADGM entity?

An ADGM entity may have registration-authority accounts and filing obligations to consider alongside its tax position. The requirements depend on the entity and applicable conditions. We identify the preparation and reporting work first. Any required ADGM Recognised Auditor appointment is confirmed separately in the engagement.

Does an ADDED licence tell you everything needed for our accounts?

The licence is a starting point. We also need to understand the legal entity, business activity, contracts, transactions, financial period and any branches. Tell us about changes to the business or licence so the records and the proposed scope reflect the current position.

Can you report on our projects or different business activities?

We can discuss management reporting by project, activity or another useful measure. The first step is to check whether your accounting records capture the necessary information. We agree the reports, allocation method and reporting frequency before adding the work to the engagement.

Can our Abu Dhabi team work with you remotely?

We agree document sharing, review calls and any meeting requirements when we scope the work. Start with a description of the business and the support needed. Call +971 50 259 9376 to discuss arrangements before travelling or sending sensitive records.
