FirswoodCan I combine accounting, VAT and corporate tax support?

Yes. We can discuss a combined engagement, but the proposal should identify the periods, filings, reports and responsibilities included. Accounting work does not automatically include every tax application, correction or advisory question. The packages page gives a starting point for the discussion.

FirswoodHow is the fee worked out?

The fee depends on the service, transaction volume, record condition, entities involved and the deliverables you need. Historical clean-up and a recurring accounting engagement are different scopes. We discuss the work before issuing a proposal; there is no universal fee that fits every business.

FirswoodDo you work outside Dubai and Abu Dhabi?

Yes. We support businesses in all seven emirates. We agree document sharing, remote working and any meeting arrangements with your team.

FirswoodCan you work in our current accounting software?

Yes. Our team works with Zoho Books, QuickBooks and Xero. We review your current setup and records, then agree the access needed. If configuration changes or migration would help, we include them in the proposal.

FirswoodDo I need to send financial records with my first enquiry?

No. Start with the service you need, a short description of the business and any relevant dates. Do not send bank details, identity documents or a full financial archive through the website form. We can agree the appropriate document request and handover method once the scope is understood.

FirswoodWho remains responsible for approving accounts and tax submissions?

The engagement should identify preparation, review and approval responsibilities. Your authorised representative needs to confirm that the business information is complete and approve submissions as agreed. Appointing an accountant or tax agent does not remove the business’s own legal obligations. Keep a record of approvals and information provided.

FirswoodCan I ask for a single project rather than monthly support?

Yes. Examples include a registration, backlog accounting project, inventory review, refund application or defined tax question. We agree the records, period, deliverables and completion criteria for the task. A one-off engagement does not automatically include monitoring or future returns after the agreed work is complete.

FirswoodWhat if I do not know which service to choose?

Describe the problem in your own words. For example: the bank balance does not match the books, an authority has asked for documents, or a return deadline is approaching. We can then identify the work involved. Include the relevant period and any correspondence dates rather than selecting a service by guesswork.

FirswoodDoes choosing an accounting package include an independent audit?

No. Account preparation, reconciliations and an audit file are different from an independent financial statement audit. An audit requires its own scope and appropriate independence and eligibility checks. If your bank, licensing authority or another party needs an audit, tell us exactly what report they require.

FirswoodCan Firswood guarantee an approval, refund or tax outcome?

No adviser can decide an authority’s outcome. Our role is to assess the relevant information, prepare the agreed work and support the application or response within the scope. Eligibility, evidence, deadlines and the authority’s review determine the result. A submission should not be treated as an approval.

VAT registrationWhat is the mandatory VAT registration threshold in the UAE?

For a UAE-resident business, mandatory registration generally applies when taxable supplies and imports exceed AED 375,000 over the previous 12 months, or are expected to exceed that amount in the next 30 days. These are rolling tests, rather than a check only at the financial year end. See the FTA registration criteria. Prepare a transaction schedule supported by invoices and contracts; bank receipts can include funding and transfers. Non-residents have different registration conditions, so the resident threshold should not be applied automatically.

VAT registrationWhat is the voluntary VAT registration threshold in the UAE?

Voluntary registration may be available when taxable supplies and imports, or qualifying taxable expenses, exceed AED 187,500 in the previous 12 months or are expected to exceed it in the next 30 days. The FTA sets out both voluntary registration tests. This can be relevant to a new business with qualifying expenses before substantial sales begin. Assess the underlying transactions and supporting evidence, then plan the invoicing, recordkeeping and return obligations that come with registration. It is a separate decision from registering for corporate tax.

VAT return filingWhen are UAE VAT returns and payments due?

VAT returns and the related payment are generally due within 28 days after the assigned tax period ends. See the FTA filing and payment guidance. Check the period and actual due date in EmaraTax, including any applicable adjustment for non-working days. Businesses do not necessarily share the same reporting calendar. Prepare the reconciliations and approval before that date, and allow time for the payment to reach the correct account. Submitting the return and settling the liability are separate steps.

VAT compliance reviewWhat is the difference between standard-rated, zero-rated and exempt VAT supplies?

The standard UAE VAT rate is 5%. Zero-rated supplies remain taxable supplies but carry VAT at 0%; exempt supplies are a different legal category. The distinction also affects recovery of VAT on related costs: input tax connected with taxable supplies may be recoverable subject to the conditions, while input tax directly attributable to exempt supplies is generally not recoverable. The FTA VAT guide explains these categories. Classify each transaction using its facts and supporting evidence before choosing a software tax code.

VAT registration amendmentsHow soon must changes to tax registration details be reported?

The FTA requires relevant changes to registration records to be notified within 20 business days. See the Tax Records Amendment service. Record when the underlying change actually happened, then identify the appropriate update for the taxable-person profile or individual tax registration. The evidence might include an amended licence, incorporation documents or revised signatory authority. Check the resulting record after submission and update affected invoice or business records. Amending registration information does not correct an error in a previously filed tax return.

Corporate tax advisoryIs UAE corporate tax calculated on revenue or taxable income?

Under the standard framework, corporate tax is 0% on taxable income up to AED 375,000 and 9% on the amount above that band. See the FTA General Guide. Taxable income starts from accounting income and applies the relevant tax adjustments; it is not simply sales or money received in the bank. Revenue thresholds govern some different rules, including relief eligibility. Qualifying Free Zone Persons and groups within the domestic minimum top-up tax regime require a separate assessment before applying standard headline rates.

Corporate tax return filingWhat is the UAE corporate tax return and payment deadline?

The general deadline is nine months after the end of the relevant tax period, for both filing the corporate tax return and paying the tax due. The FTA explains the filing and payment timetable. Work from the business's actual registered period rather than assuming every company uses the calendar year. Allow time to finalise accounts, calculate adjustments and approve the return. A nil liability or eligibility for Small Business Relief does not by itself remove the return requirement; keep the filing acknowledgement and payment evidence together.

Corporate tax return filingUntil when is Small Business Relief available, and what is its revenue threshold?

The Ministry of Finance extended Small Business Relief to tax periods ending on or before 31 December 2029, retaining the AED 3 million revenue threshold. Read the August 2026 announcement. Eligibility requires more than checking the latest revenue figure: review the applicable conditions, exclusions and relevant history. Relief is an election to assess and document as part of the return. Keep the records supporting that assessment, and distinguish the revenue test from the taxable-income bands used in the standard corporate tax calculation.

Corporate tax registrationWhen does an individual running a UAE business need corporate tax registration?

For a natural person, the FTA's registration test refers to business turnover exceeding AED 1 million in a calendar year. Wages and qualifying personal investment and real-estate investment income are excluded under the applicable rules. See the FTA registration conditions. Identify the activities actually carried on and assess the relevant business turnover together, rather than treating each receipt or licence in isolation. This test applies to individuals; a separately incorporated company should assess its own registration obligations and cannot simply adopt the individual's turnover threshold.

Historical ESR supportWhich financial years can still require Economic Substance Regulations follow-up?

Historical ESR matters can concern financial years ending on or before 31 December 2022. The cancellation of notification and reporting requirements applies to financial years ending after that date; earlier obligations, authority requests and applicable penalties can remain relevant. See the Ministry of Finance announcement. Identify the year, the activities undertaken and any unresolved notice before deciding what work is needed. Keep the original submissions, financial statements and correspondence together. Whether an earlier obligation existed depends on the rules and circumstances for that historical period.

Excise tax registrationWhat changed for UAE excise tax on sweetened drinks in 2026?

A tiered volumetric model for sweetened drinks took effect on 1 January 2026. The calculation therefore requires the current product classification and supporting product information, rather than carrying forward the former blanket percentage assumption. The FTA explains the current sweetened-drink model. Review product composition, labels, registrations and the certificates relevant to the classification. Make sure changes reach the staff preparing declarations and returns. Taxpayer registration, product registration and the correct calculation for each product are related but distinct parts of the process.

Excise tax returnsWhen are excise tax returns and payments due in the UAE?

The standard excise tax period is a calendar month, with the return and payment due by the 15th day of the following month. The FTA guide provides a next-working-day rule and allows different periods in applicable cases. See chapter 11 of the current excise guide. Confirm the period and deadline in the tax account. Reconcile the underlying declarations with product movements and stock records before approving the return, and make the payment responsibility clear in the monthly timetable.

Accounting and bookkeepingHow long must UAE businesses keep VAT and corporate tax records?

Corporate tax records generally need to be retained for at least seven years after the tax period ends. See the FTA recordkeeping reminder. General VAT records follow a five-year period after the relevant tax period, while relevant VAT real-estate records require fifteen years under the VAT Executive Regulation. Build the archive around the applicable category and longest relevant obligation. Audit, dispute or other statutory requirements may extend retention, so review the position before deleting a period's records.

Accounting and bookkeepingCan electronic copies be used for UAE tax recordkeeping?

Electronic copies or photocopies can be used subject to the FTA's preservation requirements. They must retain the original details and all pages in order, remain legible and be accessible when the FTA requests them; partial scans are not accepted. FTA Decision No. 4 of 2026 sets out the rules. Give files clear references and link them to the accounting entries. Maintain backups and access after changing software or accountant. Outsourcing storage does not transfer the business's responsibility for preserving its records.

Tax residency certificatesWhich residence tests are relevant to an individual's UAE tax residency certificate?

First establish whether the certificate is for a tax treaty or another purpose. For non-treaty applications, the FTA service card distinguishes presence of at least 183 days in the relevant 12-month period, a shorter-presence route with additional conditions, and the usual-residence and centre-of-interests route. See the current FTA certificate requirements. The evidence may include identity documents, an entry-and-exit report, residence details and employment or business records. Treaty applications follow the relevant agreement's residence provisions, so choose the country and period before deciding which eligibility test and documents apply.

goAML registrationWhich business activities fall within the DNFBP goAML registration route?

Relevant categories include real-estate brokers and agents, dealers in precious metals and stones, independent accountants and auditors, and trust or company service providers, when their activities fall within the applicable definitions. The Ministry's DNFBP guidance identifies the categories. Confirm the actual activity and supervisory authority before preparing a registration. The Ministry's route is distinct from supervision in financial free zones. Keep the entity details, authorised user and compliance-officer appointment consistent, then assign responsibility for maintaining access and the business's ongoing AML procedures.

Payroll servicesWhen are monthly salaries due under the current UAE WPS guidance?

For establishments registered with MOHRE, Article 1 of Ministerial Resolution 0340 of 2026 states that the previous month's salaries fall due on the first day of each Gregorian month. Read the MOHRE resolution. Confirm the employer's authority and applicable arrangements, then schedule payroll inputs, approvals and payment processing around the due date. WPS file preparation alone is not confirmation that employees have been paid. Retain the approved payroll and payment evidence, and investigate rejected or incomplete payments promptly.

Business setupWhen should a new UAE business begin bookkeeping?

Begin when the business starts incurring formation or operating transactions, rather than waiting for its first tax return or first profitable month. Keep the licence and ownership records alongside supported setup costs, owner funding, contracts, purchases and early sales. Decide how invoices will be issued, payments approved and documents stored before transaction volumes grow. Separate business and personal cash movements and reconcile the accounts regularly. An early reporting routine makes it easier to monitor cash, assess tax registration requirements and explain the opening balances when the first accounts are prepared.

External auditWhich businesses must maintain audited financial statements for UAE corporate tax?

For tax periods beginning on or after 1 January 2025, the specified categories include taxable persons other than a Corporate Tax Group whose revenue exceeds AED 50 million, and Qualifying Free Zone Persons. Tax Groups have separate provisions. Ministerial Decision 84 of 2025 sets out the requirements. Assess the relevant person's status and revenue, then confirm the report required. Company law, a licensing authority, a lender or a contract may impose an audit separately, even where the corporate tax threshold does not apply.

Outsourced CFOWhy can a profitable business still have a cash shortage?

Profit and available cash measure different things. Sales can appear in the accounts before customers pay, while stock purchases, supplier payments and investment can use cash ahead of the income they support. Growth may therefore increase the amount tied up in receivables and inventory even when margins look healthy. Compare the profit report with customer ageing, supplier commitments and a cash forecast. Use realistic collection dates and payment timing, then test what happens if customers pay later or planned spending goes ahead sooner than expected.

Accounting and bookkeepingWhat is the difference between bookkeeping and accounting?

Bookkeeping records transactions and keeps the underlying ledgers organised. Accounting also considers adjustments, reporting and how the figures should be presented. Most businesses need both. We describe the actual work in your proposal so that terms such as monthly accounting do not hide important exclusions or assume a level of reporting you do not need.

Accounting and bookkeepingAre VAT and Corporate Tax returns included?

They can be included in a combined engagement, but they are separate responsibilities from maintaining the books. Your proposal states who prepares each return, who reviews it, who approves submission and who makes payment. We also identify which supporting schedules the bookkeeping process must supply to the tax work.

Accounting and bookkeepingDo we have to change our accounting software?

Not necessarily. We first assess whether the existing system can support your records, reporting and access requirements. A migration is a separate decision because it involves opening balances, data history, controls and user training. If a change is needed, the scope sets out what is transferred and how it will be checked.

Accounting and bookkeepingCan you work with our existing accountant?

Yes. We can take responsibility for a defined part of the process, such as reconciliations or preparation of monthly accounts, while your team retains other tasks. We agree ownership of each ledger and adjustment, access permissions and the final reviewer so that work is neither duplicated nor left unassigned.

Accounting and bookkeepingWhat happens if our records are incomplete?

We identify missing items and their effect on the accounts. Some gaps can be resolved through statements, duplicate invoices or confirmations; others require a documented judgement and management approval. Larger historic gaps may need a backlog project before recurring work begins. We do not fill unexplained balances with unsupported entries.

Accounting and bookkeepingDo you support businesses outside Dubai and Abu Dhabi?

Yes, we support businesses across the UAE. Tell us where your records and operations are based and whether you need on-site work, remote delivery or a combination. We agree practical arrangements around document access and review meetings, rather than treating location as a substitute for a clear working process.

Backlog accountingCan you reconstruct accounts from bank statements alone?

Bank statements are a useful starting point, but they do not explain every transaction or establish all unpaid balances. We also ask for invoices, contracts, supplier statements and other evidence where available. The assessment identifies what can be reconstructed and what remains uncertain before the project scope is finalised.

Backlog accountingHow far back can the project cover?

Tell us the full period involved and which records remain available. We scope the work around evidence, opening balances and the purpose of the reconstruction. Older periods may depend on records held by a former accountant, bank or supplier. We establish those dependencies rather than promising a fixed period of recovery in advance.

Backlog accountingWill the project correct our previous tax returns?

Only if the relevant tax review and corrective filing are expressly included. Bookkeeping reconstruction produces or repairs the accounting evidence. A separate assessment determines whether a filed position needs to change and which procedure applies. We identify potential differences so that they can be addressed by the responsible tax adviser.

Backlog accountingWhat if our previous accountant will not cooperate?

We can assess the records you control and create a list of the missing exports, reconciliations and explanations. You remain responsible for obtaining access and authorising any handover. If important records cannot be recovered, we explain the effect on scope and reliability rather than suggesting that every historic balance can be verified.

Backlog accountingCan you finish before an upcoming deadline?

Share the deadline immediately, together with the number of periods and the state of the records. We assess whether a useful sequence is achievable and identify information that must arrive first. Completion depends on the work and response times; we do not promise a delivery date before reviewing those dependencies.

Backlog accountingHow do we keep the books current afterwards?

The handover should lead into a recurring document collection and reconciliation process, with named owners and agreed reporting dates. We can propose ongoing bookkeeping once the opening position is understood. A recurring engagement is separately scoped, so you can see the difference between the cleanup fee and the continuing workload.

Outsourced CFOHow is outsourced CFO support different from bookkeeping?

Bookkeeping establishes what has happened and keeps the records organised. CFO support uses that information to plan, assess choices and oversee financial performance. It does not replace reliable books. We can work with your existing accountant, or define separate accounting and advisory responsibilities within a combined engagement.

Outsourced CFOCan we use the service for one decision?

Yes. A project might assess a new location, a contract, a hiring plan or a funding requirement. We agree the question, necessary information and decision deadline at the outset. The output explains assumptions and financial implications, while the final commercial decision remains with the business owner or board.

Outsourced CFOWill you arrange a loan or investment?

We can help prepare forecasts, financial schedules and explanations that a lender or investor requests, where included in the scope. Approval, pricing and availability depend on the institution and the business. We do not promise funding or act as a substitute for legal or regulated investment advice.

Outsourced CFOWhat if our management accounts are not reliable?

We first establish which figures can support a decision and which need correction. Sometimes a limited reconciliation is enough; sometimes a separate accounting or backlog project is needed. We can use clearly identified assumptions for planning, but we do not present uncertain starting data as verified historical performance.

Outsourced CFOWho approves spending and holds banking access?

Your authorised management retains spending, borrowing and payment approval. We can recommend controls and prepare analysis without taking custody of funds. Any system access must match the agreed work and approval policy. The engagement records responsibilities so that financial advice is not mistaken for authority to transact.

Outsourced CFOHow often should we review the forecast?

The frequency depends on cash pressure, trading volatility and the decisions ahead. A business with uneven collections may need a different rhythm from one with predictable subscriptions. We agree the review cycle and update responsibilities with you, then change them when the information or decision needs justify it.

Payroll servicesDoes outsourcing payroll transfer employer responsibility?

No. The employer remains responsible for employment decisions, accurate information, approvals, funding and wage payment. We perform the calculations and administrative work included in the agreement. A clear division of duties helps prevent gaps between HR records, approved payroll and the actual payment made to employees.

Payroll servicesCan you prepare WPS files?

Payment-file preparation and checks can be included after we confirm the employer’s applicable arrangement and the bank or payroll-provider format. The proposal states who uploads, funds and authorises the instruction. We also identify who checks acceptance and handles rejected records; generating the file alone does not complete the payment process.

Payroll servicesDo all free-zone employers follow the same payroll process?

Do not assume that every employer follows identical arrangements. We check the licensing authority, workforce and payment requirements that apply to your business. Your payroll process must reflect those facts as well as employment terms. Specific legal interpretations or disputes are referred for the appropriate employment-law advice.

Payroll servicesHow are bonuses, overtime and deductions handled?

Your authorised contact provides approved instructions and the supporting attendance, policy or contractual records. We assess the calculation basis within the agreed scope and flag unclear items. Amounts are not added or deducted simply because they appeared in last month’s spreadsheet; changes should be traceable to a responsible approval.

Payroll servicesCan you calculate a departing employee’s settlement?

Yes, where included in the engagement and supported by the relevant employment records. We establish the applicable arrangement, service dates, salary components, leave balance and approved adjustments. Any disagreement about entitlement or a disputed termination needs separate legal consideration; payroll calculation does not decide the underlying employment dispute.

Payroll servicesWhat happens if we submit changes after approval?

We record the change, assess its effect and agree whether a revised payroll or a separate adjustment is appropriate. A changed payment instruction requires the relevant approval again. The process should preserve both the original and revised records so that management can explain what changed and reconcile the eventual payment.

Management reportingWhat should a monthly management pack contain?

It should contain the information needed for your decisions, rather than every available metric. Common elements include financial results, cash, receivables, payables and comparisons with a budget or prior period. We select additional measures around your business model and define the owner and purpose of each section.

Management reportingCan you report by branch, project or product?

Yes, if the underlying records support meaningful allocation. We first check how revenue, costs and shared expenses are captured. Where source data is insufficient, we can propose a coding or allocation approach. Management must understand the assumptions so that a reported margin is not mistaken for a directly measured fact.

Management reportingWill a dashboard update automatically?

Automation depends on the source systems, access and how consistently information is recorded. Some figures can refresh automatically while others need review or adjustment before release. We agree the refresh process and approval point; a live connection does not by itself make a measure complete, accurate or suitable for decision-making.

Management reportingAre management accounts the same as audited accounts?

No. Management accounts are prepared for internal use and can follow an agreed format and frequency. An external audit is a separate assurance engagement with its own scope, evidence and reporting requirements. Management reporting may help organise information, but it does not provide an independent audit opinion.

Management reportingCan we keep our current finance team and reporting software?

Yes. We can improve definitions, mappings, reconciliations or commentary while your team continues preparing the source data. We assess the existing software before recommending changes. The engagement identifies who maintains each source, approves adjustments and releases the final report so the process remains workable after setup.

Management reportingHow do you handle late or incomplete data?

We agree a reporting cut-off and distinguish final figures from estimates or provisional information. Material gaps are explained in the pack, with responsibility for resolving them. When later information changes a prior report, the revision should be visible so that management can follow the effect on decisions and comparisons.

Internal auditHow is internal audit different from external audit?

Internal audit examines selected risks, processes and controls for management or those overseeing the organisation. An external financial-statement audit has a different purpose and reporting framework. One does not automatically replace the other. We establish the intended users and expected output before deciding which engagement fits the requirement.

Internal auditCan we commission one targeted review?

Yes. You may want to examine a process such as purchasing, expenses or credit control before considering a wider programme. The scope should define the concern, period, locations and evidence available. A focused review can be useful, provided readers understand which related processes have not been assessed.

Internal auditWill the review detect every fraud or error?

No review should be described as a guarantee that all misconduct or errors will be detected. Testing has a defined scope and evidence limitations. If the purpose is to investigate a particular allegation, that should be stated at the outset so the required forensic, legal and confidentiality arrangements can be considered.

Internal auditWho should receive the report?

The reporting line should allow findings to reach people with the authority to address them and provide appropriate oversight. We agree the recipient and escalation arrangements before fieldwork. Process owners need enough information to respond and implement actions, while sensitive material may require more restricted circulation.

Internal auditCan the same team review work it previously performed?

That creates an objectivity concern which must be assessed before accepting the review. We identify prior responsibilities and any conflict with the proposed assurance work. The response may require separation, a different arrangement or declining that part of the engagement. The scope should never imply independence without considering these facts.

Internal auditWhat happens after the report is issued?

Management owns the agreed changes. Where follow-up is included, we request evidence and assess whether the action addresses the finding. An action may be implemented but still fail to resolve the underlying problem. The follow-up report distinguishes completed, overdue and partially effective actions so oversight can continue.

External auditDoes every UAE business need an external audit?

The answer depends on legal form, licensing rules, tax status and contractual requirements. A Corporate Tax threshold is only one part of that assessment. Share the company documents and the request you have received, and we can identify the applicable reporting requirement before proposing the engagement.

External auditCan you guarantee an unmodified audit opinion?

No. An audit opinion must follow the evidence and the applicable reporting framework. Material misstatements or limits on available evidence can affect the report. We explain queries and proposed adjustments during the work, but an engagement fee cannot purchase a particular conclusion or remove the auditor’s professional judgement.

External auditWhat if our free zone requires an approved auditor?

Provide the authority’s current requirement and intended reporting period before the engagement is accepted. The relevant registration, list eligibility and signing arrangements must be checked. This page does not claim approval by every free zone or regulator; acceptance depends on the specific authority and engagement circumstances.

External auditCan you audit accounts that you also prepare?

Any existing accounting role must be assessed for independence and other professional restrictions. The preparation of records and the audit are separate responsibilities. Depending on the facts and applicable requirements, separation or a different appointment may be necessary. We address this before acceptance rather than treating a combined scope as automatic.

External auditWhat should we do if records are missing?

Tell us at the planning stage. Some information can be recovered from banks, counterparties or existing systems, while other gaps may need a separate reconstruction project. The auditor decides whether the resulting evidence is sufficient. Management explanations alone do not necessarily replace missing documentation or remove a reporting limitation.

External auditHow long will the audit take?

Timing depends on the entity, required procedures, availability of records, external confirmations and management responses. We agree a working timetable after reviewing the requirement. If a bank or authority has set a deadline, share it early so dependencies are visible; completion and the final report cannot be promised before the evidence is assessed.

Inventory auditIs an inventory audit the same as a stock count?

Not necessarily. A stock count establishes quantities at a point in time. An inventory engagement may also examine records, cut-off, ownership, costing or controls. The proposal defines which procedures are included and what the resulting report means, so a quantity check is not mistaken for a full valuation or financial audit.

Inventory auditDo you count every item?

The coverage depends on the purpose, stock population and agreed method. Some engagements involve observation and selected test counts, while others require broader verification. We define coverage before work starts and explain the limitations in the report. No claim of complete verification should be made where only selected items were tested.

Inventory auditCan trading continue while the count takes place?

Sometimes, but movements need a controlled procedure. Receipts, dispatches and transfers must be identified so quantities can be reconciled to the chosen count point. We discuss the operating constraints with management during planning. An uncontrolled moving population can reduce the reliability of the exercise and create avoidable recount work.

Inventory auditHow are damaged or slow-moving goods handled?

We record observations within the agreed procedures and ask management for evidence about condition, usage and sale prospects. A valuation conclusion needs more than a visual label. Technical testing or specialist appraisal may be required for some goods. Management remains responsible for proposed write-downs and for providing the supporting commercial information.

Inventory auditWhat about goods held by a warehouse or customer?

We identify third-party holdings during planning and agree the evidence needed, which may include access arrangements, records or confirmations. Ownership and the location of goods are separate questions. Consignment terms and goods held for others must be distinguished so quantities are not added to the wrong entity’s inventory.

Inventory auditWill our external auditor accept your report?

The external auditor decides what evidence it requires and whether it can use work performed by others. Involve that auditor before scheduling the count if the engagement is intended to support the annual audit. A standalone stock report should not be assumed to satisfy procedures that were never agreed with the auditor.

goAML registrationDoes every UAE company need goAML registration?

Applicability depends on the business activities and the relevant supervisory framework; it should not be assumed solely from having a UAE licence. We review the activity and authority information at the start. If the classification is uncertain, it requires a specific assessment before choosing a registration category or submitting the application.

goAML registrationCan Firswood choose our MLRO for us?

Management must make and authorise the relevant appointment. Registration assistance does not itself appoint Firswood or any individual as your MLRO. We can explain the information required for the application and identify gaps in the appointment records. Any ongoing compliance role would require a separate, expressly agreed assessment and engagement.

goAML registrationIs registration the same as AML compliance?

No. Registration is one part of the reporting infrastructure. The business still needs to address its applicable policies, customer checks, risk assessment, training and reporting responsibilities. We keep the registration scope clear so that an application confirmation is not presented as evidence that the entire compliance framework has been reviewed.

goAML registrationWhat if our previous MLRO has left?

Start by identifying the existing registration, business-controlled contact channels and appointment history. We can assess the required account or contact change and help organise supporting records within the agreed scope. Do not simply reuse a departing person’s credentials; management needs to establish the correct authorisation and official change process.

goAML registrationCan you guarantee approval or a completion date?

No. We can help prepare a consistent application and respond to requests within our agreed responsibilities, but the authority controls review and approval. Missing documents, incorrect categories and account-access issues can affect progress. We assess those dependencies before proposing a timetable and distinguish preparation time from authority processing.

goAML registrationWill you submit suspicious transaction reports for us?

That is not included in a registration engagement. Decisions and filings relating to suspicious activity involve separate responsibilities, confidentiality and professional requirements. If you need help beyond account setup, describe the requirement so the appropriate scope can be assessed without treating registration access as blanket authorisation to report on the business’s behalf.

Tax residency certificatesDoes a UAE residence visa automatically qualify me?

No single document should be treated as a complete eligibility assessment. The relevant route depends on the facts and purpose of the request. We review the period, presence and other supporting information before preparing the file. The FTA residency guide explains the distinct tests and the evidence associated with them.

Tax residency certificatesCan a newly incorporated company apply immediately?

The current FTA service terms state that a juridical person must have been incorporated or established for at least 12 months. We check the incorporation date and requested period before preparing an application. Early planning can still identify records the company should organise, without implying immediate eligibility.

Tax residency certificatesCan the certificate cover a future period?

The FTA states that certificates cannot cover a period that has not commenced or exceed 12 months. The requested period should match the purpose and supporting evidence. Tell us exactly what the receiving party has asked for so we can assess the request before documents and fees are committed.

Tax residency certificatesWill a certificate remove tax liability in another country?

That cannot be assumed. The effect depends on the relevant treaty, the type of income, foreign domestic rules and the applicant’s facts. A certificate supports a residence position; it does not automatically settle every foreign tax issue. Advice for the other jurisdiction should be obtained where the intended use requires it.

Tax residency certificatesWhat if the overseas authority provides its own form?

Share the complete form and instructions before applying. We check its relationship with the requested certificate and identify required applicant declarations or supporting details. The receiving country and period must be consistent. Any foreign-law interpretation or additional attestation process is discussed separately rather than assumed to be included in a standard application.

Tax residency certificatesCan you guarantee that the certificate will be issued?

No. The FTA reviews the application and decides whether the requirements are met. Our work is to organise evidence, identify gaps and support accurate responses within the agreed scope. We distinguish our preparation work from authority processing and explain additional requests rather than promising approval or a fixed issue date.

Business setupShould I choose mainland or a free zone?

The choice depends on your activities, customers, operating arrangements and ownership requirements. Compare the permission you need to trade with the continuing obligations and costs, rather than only the setup price. We assess relevant routes against your business model and identify matters that need authority confirmation or separate legal advice.

Business setupCan you guarantee a corporate bank account?

No. A bank applies its own onboarding, ownership and risk requirements and makes its own decision. We can help organise company and financial information where agreed, but incorporation does not guarantee approval. Describe the expected transactions and operating model early so banking needs can be considered alongside the setup plan.

Business setupAre visas included in company formation?

Only where the proposal explicitly includes the relevant work. Immigration, establishment and employee processes have their own requirements and approvals. The scope should distinguish application support, authority charges and the applicant’s responsibilities. We do not describe a company licence as automatic approval for every residence or employment arrangement.

Business setupWill a free-zone company automatically be tax-free?

No tax outcome should be assumed from the licence label alone. The business’s activities, transactions and applicable tax rules need a separate assessment. We can identify the tax questions that affect the setup decision and include advisory work where agreed, rather than allowing an incorporation package to imply a guaranteed tax result.

Business setupCan I add activities or change ownership later?

A later change needs to be assessed under the relevant authority’s process and the company’s documents. It may affect other registrations, contracts or approvals as well. We can discuss amendment support as a separate scope, but the initial setup should reflect your intended operations rather than rely on an assumed easy change later.

Business setupWhat records should I keep from the start?

Keep the issued company documents, approvals, shareholder contributions, formation invoices, contracts and bank information in an organised business file. Record early expenses and funding with supporting evidence. We can establish the accounting handover and responsibilities as part of a separate engagement so that the first reporting period does not begin with avoidable gaps.

Customs registrationIs a trade licence the same as a customs code?

No. A licence identifies the business and permitted activities, while customs registration provides the relevant record for dealing with the customs authority. We check how the two connect for your proposed activity. A business should not assume that receiving a trading licence means every import or export registration has been completed.

Customs registrationCan one registration be used everywhere in the UAE?

The correct route depends on the authority, port and transaction arrangement. We do not assume that one code automatically covers every customs activity or emirate. Tell us where goods will enter, leave or move, and whether a broker is involved, so the specific registration and authorisation requirements can be checked.

Customs registrationDoes this service include clearing a shipment?

Registration support does not automatically include customs declarations, brokerage or physical shipment clearance. Those tasks require separate information and responsibilities. Your proposal identifies the registration work and any additional services. We also flag product approvals or other dependencies that should be resolved before the business relies on a shipment timetable.

Customs registrationWill registration determine our customs duty?

No. Duty treatment can depend on the goods, classification, value, origin and the transaction procedure. A registration number does not settle those questions. If you need a duty assessment or a position on a particular shipment, that requires a separate review with the relevant commercial and product information.

Customs registrationWhat happens when company details change?

A change to the licence, authorised person or contact information may require an update to the customs record. We can review the existing profile and relevant process within an agreed amendment scope. Keep the authority correspondence and registration details accessible so a routine business change does not leave outdated information in use.

Customs registrationCan we apply before choosing a freight forwarder?

We can assess the business registration requirements from the proposed trading model, but the shipment route and operational responsibilities still need to be understood. A forwarder or broker may later require a separate authorisation. The initial discussion should identify who will manage goods movement, declarations and communication with the customs authority.

Company liquidationCan I close the business by not renewing its licence?

Licence expiry alone does not complete a closure. The Dubai Government closure guidance describes licence cancellation and associated authority steps. The actual requirements depend on the entity and jurisdiction. We assess the applicable process and outstanding obligations before preparing a closure plan.

Company liquidationDoes every company need a liquidator?

The answer depends on the legal form, jurisdiction and applicable closure process. Where a formal appointment is required, the person’s eligibility and authority acceptance must be confirmed. Our proposal distinguishes accounting and coordination support from the formally appointed role, rather than suggesting that every cancellation follows the same procedure.

Company liquidationWhat if the company has unpaid debts?

The debts and the ability to pay them must be assessed before choosing a closure route. Disputed liabilities, guarantees or an inability to meet obligations may require specialist legal or insolvency advice. We can organise financial information within the agreed scope, but a routine licence-cancellation process should not be treated as a way to erase creditors.

Company liquidationAre tax registrations cancelled automatically?

No. Tax deregistration and final compliance work need to be assessed separately from licence cancellation. We review the registrations, filing history and outstanding balances and identify the relevant applications. The engagement states who prepares and approves each submission; a licence cancellation document is not itself confirmation that every tax account is closed.

Company liquidationWhat if the company never traded?

An inactive company may still have formation costs, shareholder funding, bank activity, registrations or authority requirements to resolve. We review the records and legal form rather than assuming no work is needed. A clear record of inactivity and any transactions helps establish the appropriate scope and supporting information for the closure.

Company liquidationWhen can shareholders receive remaining funds?

Distributions need to follow the applicable process and the authority of management or the appointed liquidator, taking account of liabilities and other obligations. We can prepare supporting financial schedules, but do not authorise a distribution merely because cash remains in the bank. Specific legal questions should be resolved before funds are released.

VAT registrationDoes a corporate tax registration also register me for VAT?

No. VAT and corporate tax are different registrations with different eligibility tests. An existing EmaraTax account can be a useful starting point, but we still assess your VAT position and prepare the relevant application. Share all existing registration certificates so we can check the correct taxable-person profile before work begins.

VAT registrationCan I register before the business has substantial sales?

Potentially. We need to review the basis for voluntary registration and the evidence available rather than assume that every new business qualifies. Expected contracts, actual taxable expenditure and the business activity may be relevant. We will explain what the records support and where the application needs further evidence before submission.

VAT registrationCan Firswood help if I should already have registered?

Yes. We start with the actual trading history, including when invoices were issued and what was supplied. We then separate the registration application from any historic filing, accounting or penalty work. A late application should use supported facts; we do not alter dates simply to produce a more convenient result.

VAT registrationHow long will approval take?

The FTA publishes an estimated processing period, but an individual application may take longer when information is incomplete or further questions arise. We agree our preparation work after reviewing your documents and keep track of authority requests. We cannot guarantee an approval date or treat submission as permission to assume approval.

VAT registrationWhat happens after I receive the VAT certificate?

We check the certificate against the application and explain the recorded effective date and first filing period. Your business then needs reliable tax invoices, records and a return-preparation process. If you want ongoing bookkeeping or VAT filing, we agree its frequency, responsibilities and fee as a separate or combined service.

VAT return filingCan you file using reports from our own accounting software?

Yes. We work with Zoho Books, QuickBooks and Xero, and can review an agreed export of your records. We still need supporting documents and explanations for unusual transactions. A software-generated VAT report is the starting point for preparation; it does not remove the need to reconcile totals and assess the tax treatment.

VAT return filingDo you also pay the VAT on our behalf?

The engagement must say who is responsible for payment and how it will be authorised. We can provide the filing result and agreed payment information, but submission and settlement are separate actions. Your team should confirm that payment has reached the correct tax account rather than rely only on a transfer instruction.

VAT return filingWhat if there was no trading during the period?

Tell us about all activity, including expenses, credit notes, imports and adjustments, before describing the return as nil. We review the account and confirm the filing required for the assigned period. A quiet trading month does not by itself establish that there are no reportable entries or that a filing obligation has ended.

VAT return filingCan you take over from our previous accountant?

Yes. We request the prior returns, working papers, opening VAT balances and unresolved queries, then agree a handover date. If those records are incomplete, we explain the additional reconciliation needed. A clear cut-off prevents the same invoice being included twice or missed while responsibility moves between advisers.

VAT return filingWill you correct errors from earlier VAT returns?

We can assess them, but we do not automatically put every historical error into the current return. We identify the affected periods, evidence and tax impact before selecting the appropriate correction route. Voluntary disclosure or reconstruction work is scoped separately when it falls outside the agreed recurring filing service.

VAT deregistrationDoes cancelling the trade licence cancel VAT registration?

No. Treat licence cancellation and VAT deregistration as separate procedures. We review the licence event alongside the tax account and prepare the relevant VAT application where appropriate. Keep access to the authorised signatory, records and EmaraTax correspondence until the outstanding work and authority requests have been dealt with.

VAT deregistrationCan a business deregister because sales have fallen?

Possibly, but the position requires a review of the applicable conditions and the relevant trading history. We ask about recent and expected taxable activity, not only the latest month. The assessment establishes the supporting basis and whether applying is mandatory, available voluntarily or not appropriate for the facts presented.

VAT deregistrationShould we stop filing after submitting the application?

Do not assume that submission ends your existing obligations. We check the application status, the FTA's decision and the tax periods shown in the account. The final return is prepared around the approved effective date. Continue providing records and forwarding authority correspondence while the application remains under review.

VAT deregistrationWhat if we have outstanding returns or missing records?

We list the missing periods and reconcile the information available before agreeing a recovery plan. Preparing those accounts or overdue returns may be necessary alongside the deregistration work. The proposal separates reconstruction, filing and application support so you can understand the work involved and the matters that may delay completion.

VAT deregistrationCan Firswood handle deregistration as part of company liquidation?

Yes, we can agree a coordinated scope for the tax and business-closure work. Each authority process still needs its own evidence and completion checks. We identify the party responsible for each step, record dependencies and explain any specialist or additional work before treating the company-closure project as complete.

VAT refund assistanceDoes a credit on EmaraTax mean a refund is automatic?

No. The credit needs to be reconciled and the appropriate refund request made. The FTA reviews the application and supporting information. We check the source of the balance, previous use of the credit and any gaps in evidence before preparing a claim, rather than treating the displayed amount as a guaranteed repayment.

VAT refund assistanceCan we leave the credit available for future periods?

The FTA refund service describes carrying excess payments forward as an available treatment. Whether that is appropriate for your business depends on the balance, expected liabilities and applicable time limits. We explain the available route for your circumstances and reconcile the account so an old balance is not overlooked. See FTA guidance.

VAT refund assistanceWhat if some supplier invoices are missing?

We identify the affected entries and ask for replacement invoices or other relevant records from the supplier and your finance team. We do not create substitute evidence for a transaction. The review explains which amounts remain supported, which need further investigation and how the missing information changes the proposed claim scope.

VAT refund assistanceCan you guarantee when the refund will reach our bank?

No. The authority controls its review and payment decision, and may request more evidence or investigate particular transactions. We can agree preparation milestones, keep a record of requests and help you respond promptly. Cash-flow planning should not rely on an unapproved refund arriving on a promised date.

VAT refund assistanceDo you handle all types of UAE VAT refund?

We first identify whether you are a registered business, foreign visitor business, individual homebuilder or another claimant category. Different schemes require different evidence and eligibility checks. This page describes registered-business refund assistance; any other scheme must be specifically confirmed and included in the engagement before application work starts.

VAT registration amendmentsIs this service for correcting an old VAT return?

No. Registration amendments update business or registration information, such as a licence or signatory detail. A return error concerns previously reported transactions or tax and needs a separate assessment. If both issues are present, we can coordinate them while keeping the evidence, authorisation and completion checks clear for each procedure.

VAT registration amendmentsDo we need an amendment every time a licence is renewed?

We compare the renewed licence and registered record to establish the update needed under the current FTA requirements. Send the renewed document promptly, including any changes to activities, names or licence numbers. We also check whether the event affects other tax registrations rather than reviewing VAT in isolation.

VAT registration amendmentsCan a new owner continue using the same VAT registration?

We must review the legal transaction and the entity involved before answering. A share transfer, a business asset sale and formation of a new legal person can have different consequences. Provide the signed agreements and amended corporate documents so the proposed treatment reflects what actually happened, rather than the commercial description alone.

VAT registration amendmentsWhat if the change happened some time ago?

We establish the actual date, review the existing profile and check correspondence or notices already received. The appropriate response should be based on the documents and current rules. We can assist with the update, but do not promise that a late amendment will remove a penalty or resolve another outstanding issue.

VAT registration amendmentsWill updating VAT also update corporate tax and customs?

Not necessarily. Some information belongs to the shared taxable-person profile while other details are specific to a registration or separate authority system. We check the required routes and state which updates are included. The handover identifies any remaining changes your team or another adviser needs to make.

VAT compliance reviewHow is this different from routine VAT return filing?

Return preparation focuses on reporting an assigned period using the available records and agreed checks. A compliance review examines selected treatments, evidence and processes in more depth across the agreed scope. It can be useful even when returns were filed on time, because timely submission alone does not establish that every treatment was correct.

VAT compliance reviewIs a VAT review the same as an FTA audit?

No. This is an independent review commissioned by your business. The FTA decides whether to conduct its own audit and what information it needs. We define the testing and reporting we perform, but a completed review does not prevent an authority enquiry or guarantee that the FTA will agree with every conclusion.

VAT compliance reviewWill you review every transaction?

That depends on the engagement. We may use risk-based samples, targeted testing or a full population for particular categories. The proposal states the coverage and the report explains any limitation caused by missing records. If early findings indicate a wider issue, we discuss expanding the work before assuming additional testing is included.

VAT compliance reviewWhat happens if you find a historical error?

We document the evidence, identify affected periods and estimate the amount only where the records support a calculation. We then recommend the appropriate assessment and correction work. Any filing action requires a defined scope and authorisation; we do not silently offset an old error in the next routine return.

VAT compliance reviewCan our own finance team implement the recommendations?

Yes. The report can assign practical actions to your team, such as changing invoice checks or improving reconciliations. We explain the intended control and evidence of completion. If you want help implementing software changes, training staff or retesting the process, we can agree those tasks and responsibilities separately.

VAT error correction and voluntary disclosureCan every error be corrected in the next VAT return?

No single rule covers every error. We assess the type of mistake, periods, tax effect and current correction requirements before deciding what action is appropriate. Putting an old difference into a current return without that assessment can create a second reporting problem or leave the original error inadequately explained.

VAT error correction and voluntary disclosureWhat is the difference between an amendment and a disclosure?

A registration amendment updates business or registration details, such as a licence or signatory. A voluntary disclosure concerns an error or omission in a return, assessment or refund application. We identify which record is wrong before preparing anything, and keep the workstreams separate if your business needs both procedures.

VAT error correction and voluntary disclosureWill voluntary disclosure remove all penalties?

It should not be presented as a blanket penalty waiver. The outcome depends on the facts, applicable rules and relevant timing, including authority action already taken. We explain the basis of any calculation or assessment and identify uncertainty. The FTA determines the account treatment; we do not promise a penalty-free result.

VAT error correction and voluntary disclosureCan you help if an FTA enquiry has already started?

Yes. Send the notice and full correspondence immediately so we can understand the scope and response requirements. We assess the correction issue in the context of that active matter rather than treating it as an ordinary standalone filing. Audit-response or dispute work may require an additional agreed engagement.

VAT error correction and voluntary disclosureWhat if we do not know the full amount of the error?

We first define the affected transactions and the records needed to calculate the amount. A sample finding may indicate a wider issue, but should not be reported as a final total without a supported method. We explain the reconstruction work and decision points before preparing a correction for approval.

FTA audit supportCan Firswood stop an FTA audit or guarantee its outcome?

No. The authority decides the scope and outcome of its audit. Our role is to help organise accurate evidence, prepare supported explanations and manage the agreed response work. A strong response file improves the quality of the process, but it is not a guarantee that no adjustment or assessment will follow.

FTA audit supportShould we contact you before answering the first request?

Ideally, share the complete notice and any response date as soon as possible. If you have already replied, provide exactly what was sent and all acknowledgements. We can then assess the current position and avoid preparing an answer that conflicts with an earlier statement or overlooks material already supplied.

FTA audit supportWhat if the original accountant no longer works with us?

We identify the records held by your business, the previous accountant and the accounting system, then agree a retrieval and reconciliation plan. Missing working papers can increase the work needed, but should be reported clearly. We reconstruct the position from available evidence rather than assume the former adviser's calculations were complete.

FTA audit supportDoes audit support include a formal tax dispute?

Not automatically. Responding to an audit request and challenging a decision are different tasks with their own requirements. We review any assessment and explain the available next steps within an agreed scope. Reconsideration, litigation or other specialist representation is confirmed separately, including who is responsible and what evidence is needed.

FTA audit supportCan you review our VAT records before any FTA contact?

Yes. A VAT compliance review is designed for that situation and can assess selected transactions and processes before an enquiry arises. Its scope and testing are agreed with you. It is a useful way to identify gaps, while remaining distinct from an authority audit and from any assurance about future FTA decisions.

Corporate tax registrationDo we register only when profit exceeds the tax threshold?

Registration and calculation of tax are separate questions. We assess the legal person and applicable registration rules, then consider the tax calculation through the relevant filing work. A low profit, a loss or an expectation that relief may apply should not be used as the sole reason to ignore registration.

Corporate tax registrationDoes our VAT registration cover corporate tax?

No. Corporate tax has its own registration and obligations. We review your existing EmaraTax profile to use the correct business record, but an existing VAT number does not replace the corporate tax application. Bring both tax certificates and any authority correspondence so we can check the account consistently.

Corporate tax registrationWhat if our company is in a free zone?

A free-zone licence does not settle every corporate tax question. We review the entity's registration position separately from any potential qualifying free-zone treatment of income. The application should reflect the legal facts, and the business needs a separate assessment before relying on a particular rate or relief for its return.

Corporate tax registrationCan you help when the registration deadline has passed?

Yes. We establish the relevant dates, check whether an application or penalty already exists and review the current rules for your circumstances. The proposal identifies registration work and any additional filing or penalty-related assessment. We do not promise a waiver without confirming that the conditions can actually be met.

Corporate tax registrationIs return filing included in the registration fee?

Only if the agreed proposal expressly includes it. Registration prepares the taxpayer account; return filing requires financial records, tax calculations and management approval for a tax period. We can combine the work in one engagement, but the deliverables, document timetable and fee for each part remain clear.

Corporate tax return filingCan you file if another accountant prepares our books?

Yes. We agree the accounts and schedules that the other accountant will provide, the date they are considered final and who answers queries. We then review the tax-relevant information within our scope. Bookkeeping corrections or missing schedules are identified separately so responsibilities remain clear between your team and both advisers.

Corporate tax return filingDo loss-making businesses still need to consider a return?

Yes. Do not assume that no tax payable means no filing requirement. We review the registered entity, period and applicable obligations, then prepare the return where required. A supported loss position can also matter in later periods, so the underlying accounts and calculation should be retained with the completed filing record.

Corporate tax return filingDoes Small Business Relief mean we do not file?

No. The FTA's filing guidance expressly includes persons eligible for Small Business Relief within the return requirement. We assess the election and supporting history as part of the work. Relief eligibility and a nil tax result should be documented; they do not replace the act of filing the applicable return. See FTA guidance.

Corporate tax return filingIs an external audit included?

No, unless a separate audit engagement is expressly agreed. Tax return preparation and an independent audit have different purposes and deliverables. We review whether audited statements are relevant to your situation and coordinate the timetable where needed, but do not describe a completed tax calculation as an audited financial statement.

Corporate tax return filingWhat if the accounts are not ready near the deadline?

Contact us with the current records and the registered due date. We assess what is missing and whether bookkeeping or year-end work must be completed first. We explain realistic preparation steps and responsibilities before accepting a timetable; we do not promise a reliable return from figures that cannot yet be supported.

Corporate tax implementationHow is implementation different from tax registration?

Registration establishes the tax account. Implementation prepares the records, controls and responsibilities needed to support compliance throughout the year. A business can have a registration number while still lacking the information required for its return. We assess those gaps and agree practical changes rather than treating registration as the end of preparation.

Corporate tax implementationDo we need a new accounting system?

Not necessarily. We first review the system and reporting arrangements already in use. Many issues can be addressed through better account structure, transaction descriptions, document routines or review controls. If a change or migration is warranted, we explain why and define it as part of the scope before implementation begins.

Corporate tax implementationCan you implement this with our internal finance team?

Yes. We agree which tasks your team will carry out and which Firswood will handle, then provide the specifications and review points needed. The project should leave your team able to operate the process. Responsibilities, training and follow-up testing are included only to the extent set out in the agreed proposal.

Corporate tax implementationIs the first corporate tax return included?

Only where the proposal says so. Implementation creates the process and records; preparing and filing a return requires a separate period-specific calculation and approval. We can coordinate both engagements, using the implementation work to support the first filing while keeping its fee, timetable and deliverables clear.

Corporate tax implementationCan an established company use this service after filing already?

Yes. The review may identify ways to improve a process that has already produced a return, especially after growth, a system change or an adviser handover. We examine current controls and define improvements. Any suspected historical filing error is assessed separately rather than being concealed within a prospective implementation project.

Corporate tax advisoryCan you advise before we sign a contract?

Yes. Sharing a draft and the commercial objective early allows us to identify the tax questions before the arrangement is fixed. We review the proposed facts and explain relevant implications within the agreed scope. Contract drafting, legal advice and specialist valuation are distinct services and are not assumed to be part of a tax opinion.

Corporate tax advisoryCan you guarantee that a structure will pay no corporate tax?

No. The treatment depends on the law, the actual transactions and any conditions that must be maintained. We explain the supported position and its assumptions rather than promise an outcome from a label or licence. Advice should also consider recordkeeping and compliance consequences, not only the rate quoted in a proposal.

Corporate tax advisoryDo you advise on free-zone corporate tax questions?

Yes. We assess the particular entity, activities, customers and income streams relevant to the question, using current requirements. A free-zone address alone does not establish the outcome. The scope identifies the analysis and evidence needed and distinguishes an initial advisory assessment from the ongoing monitoring and annual return work.

Corporate tax advisoryCan advice be provided on a monthly retainer?

Yes, where the recurring needs can be defined clearly. We agree the matters covered, response arrangements and how work outside that scope is approved. A retainer may support regular business questions, but a major restructuring, dispute or detailed technical opinion may need a separately agreed project and fee.

Corporate tax advisoryWill your advice also cover our VAT treatment?

Only if VAT is included in the scope. The same transaction can create questions under more than one tax, but the rules and reporting are different. Tell us which entities and transactions are involved so we can identify linked issues and propose coordinated advice without assuming that one tax conclusion answers them all.

Excise tax registrationDoes excise tax use the VAT registration threshold?

No. The FTA's excise guide states that there is no excise registration threshold. The goods, activities and any applicable exception determine the position. We review what your business actually does in the supply chain rather than using VAT turnover figures as the test for excise registration. See FTA guidance.

Excise tax registrationIs registering our company the same as registering the products?

No. Taxpayer registration and product registration serve different purposes and require different information. We identify both workstreams at the start and state which are included in the proposal. A business should not assume that receiving its excise registration number also completes every product-level or warehouse-related requirement.

Excise tax registrationCan you advise before our first import?

Yes. Early review gives time to examine the product information, the import arrangement and the records needed for the relevant procedures. Share the intended goods and transaction structure before placing reliance on a shipping date. We identify outstanding steps, while authority approvals and customs clearance remain subject to their own requirements.

Excise tax registrationDo all sweetened drinks have the same excise calculation?

No. The current model distinguishes products by the applicable classification and sugar or sweetener characteristics. We review the product records and evidence relevant to that classification, including certificates where required. Do not rely only on a marketing name or an old product spreadsheet when preparing current registration or reporting information.

Excise tax registrationCan you help if excise activity has already started?

Yes. We reconstruct the commencement date, product movements and existing registrations or declarations, then identify the outstanding work. Historical compliance and return preparation may need a separate scope. The assessment uses the actual activity record and does not assume that a new application resolves earlier periods automatically.

Excise tax returnsCan we rely on the figures automatically shown in EmaraTax?

They should be checked against your actual activity and the declarations submitted. A return can inherit an error or omission from its source information. We reconcile the relevant records and investigate differences before presenting the draft for approval, rather than treating a pre-populated figure as evidence that every movement has been reported correctly.

Excise tax returnsWho needs to provide the information for the return?

Usually more than the accountant. Warehouse, logistics, purchasing or production teams may hold the quantity and movement records needed to explain the tax position. We agree named contacts and a document timetable at onboarding. Your proposal also identifies any declarations handled by third parties so missing information can be followed up promptly.

Excise tax returnsCan damaged or lost stock simply be deducted?

No automatic deduction should be assumed. The circumstances, evidence and applicable declaration or approval procedure need review. We ask for the incident record and stock information, then assess the treatment within the agreed scope. A physical stock write-off in the accounts is not by itself a complete excise-tax explanation.

Excise tax returnsDo you also maintain our inventory records?

Only if that work is separately agreed. Excise return preparation uses and reconciles the records supplied; it is not automatically a warehouse-management or stocktaking service. If the underlying quantities cannot be supported, we explain the additional reconciliation or inventory work required before relying on them for a tax return.

Excise tax returnsWhat happens if an earlier declaration or return is wrong?

We identify the transaction, period and resulting effect, then assess the appropriate correction procedure under current requirements. Historical correction is recorded separately from the current filing. Where the issue affects product records or several declarations, we explain the connected actions so that correcting one item does not leave another inconsistency unresolved.

Historical ESR supportDo businesses still file ESR reports for current financial years?

The MoF announcement cancelled notification and reporting for financial years ending after 31 December 2022. This service therefore addresses historical obligations and unresolved authority matters. We confirm the period before accepting work and do not present a current-year ESR filing as a routine requirement. See the official announcement.

Historical ESR supportDoes the cancellation remove every earlier obligation or penalty?

No. The official announcement preserves responsibility for prior-year obligations and relevant authority requests and penalties. We review the specific case rather than assume an old matter has disappeared. Send the original correspondence and filing history so we can identify what remains open and the appropriate next assessment. Read MoF guidance.

Historical ESR supportCan you help if the previous adviser did not keep a complete file?

Yes. We first establish what records exist with the business, the former adviser and the relevant systems. We can organise and assess that evidence, but cannot recreate facts that cannot be supported. The review clearly distinguishes missing documents, reconstructed explanations and contemporaneous records before any response is prepared.

Historical ESR supportWill an old ESR conclusion determine our corporate tax treatment?

No. The regimes address different obligations and periods. Historical evidence may be relevant background, but a previous ESR filing does not establish the current corporate tax treatment of the business. We can coordinate the reviews while documenting separate questions, applicable rules and supporting records for each engagement.

Historical ESR supportCan you guarantee that a historical penalty will be cancelled?

No. We review the notice, supporting evidence and any available procedure before explaining the options. The authority decides the outcome, and timing or other conditions may affect what can be done. A penalty assessment or challenge is specifically scoped rather than implied by a general historical-records review.
